The De Anza College "Daddios" Evening Jazz Ensembles are in the forefront of preserving and presenting contemporary Big Band Jazz to the south San Francisco Bay Area community. The Daddios have come to be generally regarded as among the finest evening rehearsal jazz bands in Northern California, and present regular concerts on campus, at jazz events and at various venues in the bay area.
DADDIOS In Concert June 18 with Trombonist & Composer DAVE ESHELMAN

The De Anza “Daddios” Evening Jazz Ensembles will appear in concert with renowned composer and trombonist Dave Eshelman on Thursday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. at De Anza’s brand new Visual and Performing Arts Center.
The Six O’Clock and Eight O’Clock “Daddios” jazz bands, directed by Steve Tyler, will present a program of contemporary big band jazz highlighting Eshelman’s compositions and arrangements.
Professor Emeritus of Music at California State University East Bay, Dave Eshelman completed thirty five years of collegiate teaching in June of 2007. He was named 2002-2003 Outstanding Professor by the University, was honored with the Swain University Educator Award by the California Music Educators Association in 2007, and was awarded the San Jose Jazz Society's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.
Dave has recorded five albums as leader-composer of the Jazz Garden Big Band, and four jazz albums in association with Ray Brown. Dave was commissioned by the San Jose Jazz Society to compose, record, and perform “Suite For Jazz Orchestra” with the Jazz Garden big band at the San Jose Jazz Festival. He has written, conducted and recorded three CD projects for Philippe Kahn featuring many jazz greats.
Dave’s music is published by Neil Kjos Music and Walrus Music. His compositions and arrangements have been recorded and performed by bands throughout the United States and Europe. Dave’s CDs music and print music are available online by visiting www.jazzgarden.com.
The De Anza “Daddios” were originally formed in the 1960s by the late Dr. Herb Patnoe, founder of the music programs at Foothill and De Anza Colleges. In recent years, the “Daddios” have presented concerts featuring such jazz luminaries as Bob Florence, Warren Gale, Bill Mays, Ed Neumeister, Marvin Stamm, Mike Vax, Bill Watrous and Pete Yellin. They have appeared three times at the Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival, and have become widely regarded as being among the finest rehearsal jazz bands in Northern California.
Tickets are $10 General Admission, $7 for students and seniors, and will be available at the door.

JAZZ COMBOS Concert Sunday, June 21
Students from the Monday night MUSIC 48 Jazz Improvisation class will present an evening of small group jazz. The concert will take place at De Anza's Visual and Performing Arts Center on Sunday, June 21, beginnning at 7:30 p.m.
Five jazz "combos" will perform selections from the large repertoire of classic jazz works, including tunes such as Kenny Dorham's "Blue Bossa," Miles Davis' "So What," Horace Silver's "Senor Blues," Juan Tizol's "Caravan," Benny Golson's "I Remember Clifford," Victor Young's "Beautiful Love" and many more!
Tickets are $5 General, $3 Students and Seniors, and will be available at the door.
De Anza will offer two evening jazz classes during the summer quarter, which begins the week of June 29.
